Fire Station field trip

We all had a great time at our fire station field trip this morning! I was really impressed: it was more than just come look at the firetrucks…the kids learned some great things.

Short video on how to recognize what is hot, and how to be careful in the home. Then the firefighter showed us how they got all dressed up, complete with face mask and air!

Then they went around to all the kids and let them feel the gear so they wouldn't be afraid. I guess kids often  panic and run away because, lets admit it, this guy looks pretty scary!

Then they all got to shoot the hose! They had a small stand up house on fire with flames in the windows and the water knocked them down. The kid LOVED that part!

Kali was really concentrating to hit the flames. She takes everything so serious!

Go Cody….piece of cake. Now my kids want to be firefighters when they grow up:)

Just hanging out on the trucks some more. It was like a jungle gym toy…they let the kids crawl all over the place for as long as they wanted. I even saw one of the older kids on top of the truck. They were really nice. 

This was cool. They had a trailer set up as a kitchen and they talked about how to escape smoke.  (get low and crawl). Then the kids got to see how it felt to be in a smoke filled room and get out.

Here they were just practicing how to crawl for a minute to get them ready. 

Then they opened the door and the smoke cam pouring out. It was funny how fast Kayla fell to the floor:)  

He had to coax them in…I think they were  a little nervous. You couldn't see a thing and the smoke was stinky.  But they did it! They were really brave!

Then there was a fire fighter at the window to "rescue" them out.   It was actually pretty cool.

I'm really grateful for firefighters and their time and service. Most of these guys were volunteers! That is pretty neat.
