Shon told us he was jumping out of an airplane around noon and we could come watch. That sounded fun, so we loaded up and drove out to the drop zone. This is the plane he would jump out of... a little one if you ask me!
When we got there they were doing a practice drill in this mock plane.
But we soon found out that, because of mechanical problems, they would not be able to jump out of the plane. Instead, they would be jumping out of a Blackhawk helicopter. Cool! This is Shon in his chute all ready to go.
Well---we sure had to wait a LONG time. Actually, we were there a little over 4 hours in the end. After Shon got his chute on and set, he had to hang out here, but we came and provided some free entertainment for everyone.
It was pretty hot outside, even with the wind and clouds. The kids were having a great time. Shon just had to keep his hand over the "red" chord:)

And they are up! Don't you love how you can see their feet just dangling in the air. They just sit right on the edge of the helicopter.
That is Shon dropping out...his chute hasn't opened yet. He fell for about 5 seconds before the chute was all the way opened.

ReplyDeleteShon you are so patient letting the kids climb on you, and smiling, and in all that gear, AND making sure the 'red" button is safe! (thank goodness for that) Looks like fun to WATCH! Rachel I just can't see you sky diving! You amaze me everyday!!
